ACTION: Magnesium sulfate is a saline cleanser for the entire digestive tract. It has high osmotic activity. The salt ions (Mg2 +, SO42-) retain the water molecules and impede the normal absorption of fluids in the intestine. In addition, fluid from the tissues of the digestive tract is extracted through the osmotic pull. Increased intestinal contents reflexively stimulate peristalsis. Separation of liquids or soft faeces is carried out within a few hours (2 to 6 hours) after administration and continues until complete administration of the amount administered.
